September 2026 // Done: The 2026 grape harvest is over

After 25 days, we’ve finally done it. The 2026 grape harvest is complete!

We started harvesting on August 20th. Much like the year before, it felt a bit unusual to pack up our shears and buckets so early—in summery 25°C weather—and head out to the vineyard to pick grapes. It’s hard to believe that the grapes can already be ripe by mid-August.

During the first weeks of August, we spent a lot of time in the vineyards, touring our plots, tasting many grapes, and ultimately trusting our palates. We were rewarded with perfectly healthy and aromatic grapes. We started with Sauvignon Blanc and the Burgundy varieties, followed shortly thereafter by the Rieslings.

Most years, we begin our Riesling harvest in Deidesheim. The vineyards there generally ripen a little earlier than those in Forst and Wachenheim. On Tuesday, September 15, we were finally able to wrap up the 2026 harvest with our coolest vineyard, the Forster Musenhang.

The grape harvest is always a particularly busy time here at the winery. It takes many hands to harvest the grapes, process them, and tend to the fermenting musts in the cellar. Then there are the people working behind the scenes — in the kitchen, the wine shop, and the office. People from different countries, speaking different languages, came together over the weeks to form a team. We are very grateful for that every year!

Now things are settling down again at the winery. The cellar is already bubbling; the first musts are fermenting, and we’re eagerly watching to see how this vintage develops.
