VDP.GROSSE LAGE : Jesuitengarten Forst
Grape varieties cultivated
Riesling
Geographic situation
120 and 150 metres above sea level
Located on the outskirt of Forst directly in the neighbourhood of three other GG - vineyards KIRCHENSTÜCK, UNGEHEUER and PECHSTEIN.
The basalt components help warm the east facing site quickly in the morning sun. A west to east breeze cools and dries the grapes in the evening and helps to ensure that even highly ripe grapes remain healthy. In the vineyard newly planted with Riesling in 2010, we produce one of our “Grosses Gewächse”. The classification based on the royal Bavarian land tax law of 1828 gives this vineyard a top position in the Palatinate in terms of quality
Soil structure
diverse soils of calcareous and clay, sandy loam with limestone rubble, and in some places a high concentration of weathered basalt
Total area
7 hectares (17,20 ac)
Origin of name
The Jesuit Monastery of Neustadt an der Weinstraße was the former owner of the site, which is the origin of its name.
Wine features
The dense layers of clay and sand ensure optimum water balance and mineral absorption in the slightly sloping terrain. The Rieslings are characterized by a highly refined style, elegance and a harmonious interplay of fruit and minerality.
